Next Missouri execution set for SeptemberThe Missouri Supreme Court today announced a September date for the state’s first execution since 2005.
The court previously stayed a scheduled July 30 execution for John Middleton, a northern Missouri drug dealer convicted of killing three people in two separate cases.
On Friday, the court granted the state’s motion to reconsider the stay, and announced that it would issue a warrant to carry out Middleton’s death by lethal injection on Sept. 17.
Missouri has not executed a prisoner since October 2005. There are 47 inmates in the state who have been sentenced to death.
