Execution

Texas carried out its 11th execution of 2007 tonight in Huntsville, the second this week. It was the 390th execution in the state since 1982, the 12th execution in the nation during 2007. A total of 1,069 men and women have been executed in America since the resumption of capital punishment in 1977.

Texas has carried out more than 36% of all the executions in America during this time period, and the state has carried out more than 90% of America's executions in 2007.

AP has this report on the execution of Roy Lee Pippin, via the Houston Chronicle.

Pippin was the 97th Harris County inmate to be executed in Texas since 1982. Only Virginia and the rest of Texas have been responsible for more executions than Harris County. To date Virginia has carried out 98 executions, Oklahoma, 84.

Scheduled executions are posted on the TDCJ website.
