US Supreme Court stays Texas execution:
The US Supreme Court yesterday stayed the execution of Ronald Chambers which had been scheduled for Friday night in Texas, apparently because issues raised in the Chambers case involving proper presentation of mitiation evidence during sentencing are similar to those in the other Texas cases currently before the court. (Earlier coverage here.) Diane Jennings has this report in the Dallas Morning News (via WFAA). CapDefense Weekly has this. StandDown Texas Project here. The Chambers stay is not expected to have any effect on tonight's scheduled Texas execution of Larry Swearingen (coverage here in the Houston Chronicle.)
