Big news from Alabama

Innocence Project News August 1 2008

Dear

Thank you for writing to Alabama Gov. Bob Riley expressing your views about

the case of Tommy Arthur. Your voice makes a difference and we’re writing

today to share some important news in the case.

On Wednesday, the Alabama Supreme Court blocked Arthur’s execution,

which had been scheduled for Thursday, until the court can consider critical

new evidence in the case. Just this week, another Alabama inmate came

forward and admitted that he alone committed the murder for which Arthur

sits today on death row. DNA testing could prove whether the inmate is

telling the truth, and the Innocence Project — with your help —

has urged Gov. Riley to order DNA testing in the case before Alabama

carries out a sentence it can never reverse.

Read more about the new developments here.

Now that the execution has been stayed, there is ample time to conduct testing.

We are renewing our call that the governor order testing today.

Please forward this email to your friends and collegues to urge Riley to order

DNA testing in this case.

Forward

Thank you for your support,

The Innocence Project
