STARKE, Fla. (AP) - Florida's governor says all protocols were followed in the execution of a convicted killer, which took double the usual time.

Corrections officials say Angel Diaz had liver disease, and that's why he needed a second dose of lethal drugs during WednesdayÂ’s execution. But a cousin of Diaz says the family never heard that he'd been ill.

Most Florida executions take about 15 minutes. But it took 34 minutes to end the life of Diaz, who murdered a Miami topless bar manager. Officials don't believe Diaz felt any pain.

But death penalty foes are angry, with one claiming the state had to execute Diaz twice.
